Walid Boudhiaf

Rebel Ambassador

Walid Boudhiaf is a professional freediver and world record holder in variable weight, becoming the first human to reach a depth of -150 meters. With a rich multicultural background and a profound connection to the ocean, he blends elite performance with a passion for teaching and sharing knowledge.

With years of experience in both competition and instruction, Walid specializes in the mental and physiological dimensions of freediving, focusing on stress control, pressure management, and breath-hold optimization. His approach goes beyond performance, emphasizing self-awareness and mastery under extreme conditions.

Alongside his athletic career, he is deeply committed to ocean exploration and conservation, using his platform to promote awareness and protect marine ecosystems.

Through coaching, speaking, and exploration, Walid aims to inspire others to push their limits, trust the process, and develop a deeper understanding of both themselves and the underwater world.

My name is Alexa Young

"When I hold my breath the surface of the Sea, a whole new universe opens for me. A world of endless possibilities, where my own limitations vanish, I become one with the liquid element and I merge into it. Whatever the goal is, my body adapts to it and draws on the resources I need in order to accomplish the task."

Walid was born in France and spent part of his childhood in Tunisia, where he was first introduced to the water through spearfishing.

After completing his studies in computer science engineering, he discovered freediving almost by accident while in Colombia, at 2,600 meters above sea level, an unconventional starting point for the sport.

His journey into elite freediving was gradual, shaped by persistence and the ability to overcome multiple obstacles. Since 2006, he has competed in international competitions, earning recognition and podium finishes as he established himself among the world’s top divers.

"Freediving allowed me to overcome my weaknesses by understanding how our body and mind function it helps me feel how strongly and intrinsically connected we are to the Ocena and its inhabitants.

This fascinating journey is what motivates me to always go further, to always dive deeper."

On January 17, 2021, Walid set a New world record in the Variable Weight discipline, achieving a depth of -150 meters in the deep waters of Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
